MMF at Berlin Music Week: The New Artist Model – 4th September

The MMF are holding an event at the start of Berlin Music Week that will involve panels and discussions about how new technologies enable closer connections between artists and fans. You can find the full details below and RSVP now to webbo@themmf.net.

The MMF Presents: The New Artist Model – A look at how technologies are bringing fans and artists closer together in the digital age

Wednesday 4th September

Schedule:

1.30 – MMF Intro Jon Webster; Google welcome remarks Gudrun Schweppe

1.35 – Where are we now? The successes of digital music.

In the ten years since iTunes launched in Europe, there has been a revolution in the way consumers and artists interact, causing an eruption of new business models to enter the market and facilitate this relationship. Brian Message (ATC Mangement) will moderate whilst Fran Healy (Travis), Tim Renner and Roxanne De Bastion will talk about artist successes using technology as well as challenges facing musicians today, particularly access to finance including a presentation from Ulysses Hüppauff of Pledge Music.

2.30 -Search Engine Optimisation Workshop

Giacomo Gnecchi Ruscone from Google will present best practice to maximise traffic to websites including Search Engine Optimisation and the biggest mistakes people make on web design.

3.15 – Break

3.35 – YouTube and Google + presentations

Representatives Eva Huemann and Daniela Holtman will present and discuss working effectively and monetising digital platforms YouTube and Google +.

4.15 – Distribution of music in the digital age

Who is getting it right and best serving artists? Soundcloud, Spotify, Network Awesome and Google Play will discuss digital distribution, marketing and revenue streams in the digital age. Highlights of the discussion will include curation, discovery and how to stand out amongst the white noise of the internet. Moderator: James Barton (MMF/Iyes/Bright Light Bright Light)

5.00 – The importance of artist organisations and representation on CMOs.

A panel of artists will talk about their experiences setting up artist organisations, their purpose and functions and the challenges they face today including collective management. Kelvin Smits (Younison); Meik Michalke (C3S); Mark Kelly (Marillion, Featured Artists Coalition); Moderator: Jon Webster MMF

5.30 – Wrap-Up panel…

…will be a summary of what has been learned over the course of the day and will discuss the future of how the rights landscape will change. Brian Message; Tim Renner; Roxanne de Bastion; Matias Lorenz.
