MMF and FAC Welcome Spotify Artists As A Big Step Forward

04 December 2013

The launch of Spotify Artists (http://www.spotifyartists.com/) has been warmly welcomed by a broad spectrum of UK managers and artists. The new website has been set up to educate and inform artists and their managers about Spotify and streaming in general.

Innovation always attracts naysayers and the past years have seen much of both but fans are demonstrating that they want to consume music in different ways and that need is being fulfilled. Much needed education dispels the myths surrounding new technology and the new website answers a whole host of questions that creators have.

Manager Joe Taylor said: “This is exactly what Spotify needed to do – well done them”

Artist and FAC co-CEO: Mark Kelly said “Streaming services have been restricted in sharing this data with artists in the past which has meant that many artists have been critical without fully understanding how streaming works and pays out. This is a big step in the right direction which will hopefully lead to a more informed discussion about streaming and what it means for artists“

FAC co-CEO, Crispin Hunt added: “This is just the kind of information artists needed from Spotify. It will better enable the FAC to help creators negotiate a commensurate share of future income from all streaming services. We look forward to continuing our conversations with Spotify to create further clarity.”

MMF Chairman Brian Message said: ”This is a huge step down the road towards the transparency we have been calling for in the digital market. It has been enlightening to work with Spotify to deliver this. The streaming model is growing and generating significant income”
