MusicTank Presents: Moneyballing Music: Big Data, Consumers And A&R – MMF Discount
6.30pm, Tue 10th March. 2014, Fyvie Hall, University of Westminster, 309 Regent Street, W1B 2UW
Taking its lead from the recent publication of an MA thesis (free, here) on the subject of Big Data, this Future Thinking event will begin with a consideration of how the recorded music industry is currently collecting and using data to support a historically subjective process of signing new artists, and will go on to look at the potential of smart data for the wider industry.
With 2014 witnessing a series of high-profile acquisitions and alliances between major record labels, social media and digital service providers, Apple’s hotly-rumoured January acquisition of Musicmetric further evidences the industry’s quest to become data-smart.
Join us, and our top-drawer panel to consider whether big data really is is the new oil.
Format and Speakers: This think tank debate will begin with a presentation by Universal Music’s marketing expert Prithwijit Mukerji (author of Moneyballing Music), with a panel comprising Jack Fryer (Head of Research, Universal Music UK); Jeremy Silver (Digital Media Advisor; former Executive Chairman, Musicmetric); Kim DeRuiter (Senior Manager, Music, Video & Games – Europe, Samsung Electronics); Korda Marshall (Founder, Infectious Music)
Chair: Keith Harris, (PPL/ MusicTank/ Keith Harris Music),
