Spotify announces £10,000 Artist & Manager grant

09 November 2012

Spotify, the headline sponsor of the Artist and Manager Awards, has announced that this year it will be awarding a Spotify Artist & Manager Grant. The £10,000 grant will be awarded to an independent artist and manager partnership that shows great promise. The winning partnership will be selected by an independent committee, and announced at the Artist and Manager Awards on 27th November 2012.

The awards were created last year to celebrate the achievements of managers and artists at all stages of their careers. Spotify has created the Artist & Manager Grant in recognition of the fact that one of the biggest hurdles for talented new acts is access to finance, and will therefore be giving the grant to help nurture talent and develop their careers. The winner will also receive a marketing and promotional package on Spotify.

The MMF and FAC have been campaigning for a better investment climate for emerging acts to stimulate innovation and enterprise.
Independent PRs are at the forefront of developing grassroots acts in the UK music scene and it was with this in mind that the FAC and MMF asked leading indie PRs for their input on the nomination process.

Mark Williamson, Spotify’s Director of Artist Services, commented: ‘We’re really proud to be working with the MMF and FAC on the Artist and Manager Awards which recognise the value of artist and manager partnerships to the industry. We hope that the Spotify Artist & Manager Grant will help the winning partnership to progress their career and get that much closer to achieving their goals.”

Although there are many gifted individuals who deserve a start up fund like this, there can only be one winner who will be revealed on the night of the awards at the Troxy in Shoreditch. The five nominees for the Spotify Artist & Manager Grant will be announced in the coming weeks.
