Ticketmaster to close GET ME IN! & Seatwave

13 August 2018

The MMF is delighted at the news that Ticketmaster is due to close its secondary ticketing websites Get Me In! & Seatwave in favour of face value ticket resale.

Get Me In! and Seatwave will be replaced with a new fan-to-fan ticket exchange to be rolled out in the UK and Ireland in October and Europe in early 2019.

The announcement from Ticketmaster puts increasing pressure on secondary ticketing retailers Viagogo and Stubhub. Viagogo is already under investigation by Trading Standards for misleading customers.

Ed Sheeran took on the touts during his stadium shows this summer. In a bid to disrupt the secondary sites, entrants to Ed Sheeran’s recent stadium shows were required to bring ID and booking confirmation from a primary ticket agent.

From July, ticket touts have been banned from using automated software to buy more tickets for events than they are allowed, only to sell them on at inflated prices. The new legislation that has come into force means that anyone caught breaking the law will face an unlimited fine.

The FanFair Alliance was established to unite members of music and creative community who wish to take a stand against industrial-scale online ticket touting. The FanFair Alliance has published ticket resale guides for fans, artists and promoters. Download the guides via the FanFair website here
