Manager Spotlight: Alessia Avallone

25 January 2023

This week in the spotlight is Alessia Avallone! The Manager Spotlight offers a small insight into the heads of incredible managers.

How long have you worked in Management?

Language of Sound was founded in 2017

Who do you manage now?

Amaliah, L’rain, Lyra Pramuk, Gigi Masin, Hinako Omori, Soundwalk Collective, Ron Trent, Taryn Blake Miller

Where did you find your first client, and what inspired you to take them on?
My first client was Gigi Masin.
I fell in love with his music, but I wasn’t aware that he was 65 years old. Gigi Masin has been releasing music since 1986 but was always underappreciated by the music industry.

Working with Gigi Masin at this stage of his life means allowing him to follow his dream later in life. And it is beautiful!
Working with Gigi has always been an honour and a huge responsibility.

What’s a good/bad day at work look like for you?

Every day is vital to go with the flow and let it go to control because we have no control. So every day could be good or bad; I like to move with the ups and downs.
A bad day is when anyone on my Team could entirely misunderstand a project. A good day is when values are respected and appreciated.

What has been the highlight of your management career to date?

I feel incredibly grateful to work with sonics.
I built a roster based on working with enriching and empowering music that can heal or put the listeners in a place where it allows them to deal with the more internal and even retrospective kind of synthesis.
So every project I had the honour to collaborate on has been a highlight. The Music I have released in the world with the artists I represent has helped to get through bad times, helped to celebrate good times, and helped to analyse.
Management helps facilitate a spiritual science.

What do you think are the big challenges for a manager in 2023?

The last few years have been insanely challenging, including 2022, and probably the next few years will be the same. I have seen the change happening in the music business both to the benefit and detriment of artists and managers. The stress and anxiety the post-covid touring has put on us is insane. I never encountered in my career this kind of climate in which our health and well-being are prioritised last. As Mykki Blanco recently stated, “ The music industry is not a place for intellectuals’ and I relate to this statement so much. I often say that this industry has no intellectual foundation, so this system seems to collapse. I think the next ten years will see a massive shift happening, and I am preparing for that phase and the role I can have doing my part in making things better and more sustainable for all of us.

What music are you currently listening to?
I am currently listening to Gigi Masin’s new Album VAHINE’, the first release on my new label, Language of Sound.
