PPL Elections: Mark Kelly and Crispin Hunt Need Your Artists’ Votes

12 November 2013

PPL provides an increasingly important income stream for artists and musicians derived from recorded music.

The FAC and MMF have long campaigned for more artist representation on the Board that governs PPL and this year our work paid off: there are now 2 places reserved for artists and they are to be elected, by artists, at the Performer AGM at the end of November. (The one other place for an artist or musician will be up for voting next year). The Board makes decisions about licensing and the value of your artists’ music and it’s important that your artists are represented there by fellow working contemporary artists who understand the issues and concerns from an artist’s perspective.

Mark Kelly and Crispin Hunt have worked tirelessly as volunteers for the Featured Artists Coalition for the past five years. The FAC campaigns on behalf of those who release recorded music to help them navigate towards a new climate of fairness, transparency, partnership and sustainability within the music industry.

Mark has been an artist representative on the Board for 4 years and is standing for re-election. He has fought hard for artist rights during that time. Crispin wants to join the Board to continue that fight as can be seen by his impassioned speech to the recent BPI AGM which you can read here.
Never has the time been more pressing for Music Creators and Music Labels to work cordially together to build a future for the music industry that addresses the needs of its’ fans and artists alike. And never has the time been more pressing to ensure that creators and investors in music receive fair remuneration for their work.
