Manager Spotlight: Donna Zanetti
The manager spotlight offers a small insight into the heads of incredible managers. This week in the spotlight is Donna Zanetti!
How long have you worked in Management?
5 years.
Who do you manage now?
Kezia Gill.
Where did you find your first client and what inspired you to take them on?
It started as project (a brand partnership deal), and then shortly after a music release campaign. We worked so well together, and she asked me to be her Manager. A lot of the signings I made over the years started out as project work, and evolved into management.
What does a good/bad day at work look like for you?
A good day isn’t always the most productive one. For me, it’s about ending the day feeling fulfilled—whether by delivering a great piece of work, feeling proud of the actions I’ve taken, or knowing I’ve moved one step forward, no matter how small. That’s what truly defines a good day.
What has been the highlight of your management career to date?
Kezia Gill being announced this year as a Spotlight arena artist at Country 2 Country festival at London’s O2 and Glasgow’s OVO arenas which is an achievement made by a very small number of UK artists over the ten years that the festival has been operating. Shortly after that announcement, she went on to win “Live Act of The Year” at the UK Americana Music Awards and she is also on a global rise, with slots at CMA Fest in Nashville last year (one of only two UK artists) and CMC Rocks in Australia this year (the only UK act). It is so great to help get a British artist in the genre to those global stages!
What do you think are the big challenges for a manager in 2024?
The current economic climate is undoubtedly a major challenge. It’s heartbreaking to see festivals and shows being cancelled because people simply don’t have the extra money to attend as many live music events. When cancellations happen, it’s incredibly difficult to find replacement opportunities for artists so they can continue earning a living. At the same time, we face the challenge of protecting an artist’s value in the market. This often means having to turn down live event offers that don’t align with the artist’s profile. It’s a delicate balance—artists need to cover their bills, but we also need to stay committed to their long-term live strategy. Despite the difficulties, maintaining this balance is crucial for sustaining and growing their career in the long run.
Why would you recommend the MMF?
The MMF has been an incredibly valuable source of information and support throughout my journey, from my early days as a manager to where I am now. The community of managers they’ve cultivated is vital to the industry, providing unparalleled opportunities for networking and peer support. The annual summit is a highlight of my year—I always leave feeling inspired and having gained new insights. Their free resources, various courses, and published books and guides have equipped me with additional tools that are invaluable in my day-to-day role.
What music are you currently listening to?
Toby Lee…. I saw him live for the first time at the AMA-UK awards and was so blown away that I immediately downloaded his entire catalogue.
